Looking for a way to keep volunteers around longer?  Often the key is to match them with a ministry that best suits their availability.  How about developing a “Ministry In a Box” method!

Ministry In a Box is volunteer service that can be done at home, and on the time schedule of the volunteer.  The worker picks up a ‘box’ from the church that is self-contained with the project that needs to be accomplished.  It could be a list of phone calls to make, letters to be stuffed, research projects or collating a mailing.  For those with computer skills it could be data entry, desktop publishing assignments or even Power Point presentations.

Saddleback Community Church, Lake Forest, California, currently have 150 people involved in this program.  Sometimes thinking “inside” the box is the key to retaining your volunteers for ongoing service.
