Package 1 ($9.00 per search)

The National Criminal File Plus comprises a search of the Dept. of Public Safety, Dept. of Corrections, and Administrative Office of the Courts, Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, Sexual Offenders Registry, and the Dept. of Criminal Justice files and records, where available. Package includes Social Security Number Verification, which provides the name, date issued and state, as well as best available address history.

Reports may contain both felony and misdemeanor information if both offenses are stored and maintained in the same index file. This search will be conducted onsite in the selected county, and the price includes the court access fees except in the state of New York, which adds an additional $55.00. Additional counties may be added for $14 each (plus the additional access fee in the state of New York, for each additional name selected).

Package 3 ($23.00 per search)1
Includes all of Package 1, plus a Motor Vehicle Record, from the state in which the applicant is licensed. Depending upon the state, this may provide information such as dates of convictions, violations and accidents, sections violated, docket numbers, court locations, and accident report numbers.

Package 4 ($36.00 per search)1
Includes all of Packages 1, 2, and 3: the National Criminal File Plus, Social Security Verification, one County Seat Felony & Misdemeanor Search ($55 additional in the state of New York), and one state Motor Vehicle Record. Additional counties may be added for $14 each (plus the additional access fee in the state of New York).

Package 5 - Motor Vehicle Record ($15.00 per search)1

Depending upon the state, this may provide information such as dates of convictions, violations and accidents, sections violated, docket numbers, court locations and accident report numbers. State access fees included in package price.

Ala Carte Item 6 - National Criminal File Only ($6.00 per search)
Instant online reference of the National Criminal File including Sexual Offender Registry listings. Also provides best available address history.

Ala Carte Item 7 - Social Security Number Verification Only ($3.00 per search)
Social Security Number verification of additional names of the individual being checked through the National Criminal File Plus database for $3.00 per alias selected.

Ala Carte Item 8 - Credit Report ($7.50 per search)
Instantly reports credit information. Provides credit history through a national credit bureau. Pulling a credit report for volunteer/employment purposes does NOT affect the individual’s credit report or score.

Ala Carte Item 9 - Federal Felony & Misdemeanor Report ($14.00 per search)
This is a criminal records search conducted at a single U.S. District Court within a federal judicial district. U.S. District Courts are trial courts for matters involving federal law. These are cases that involve the government, a violation of the constitution, or a controversy that crosses state lines. Criminal cases landing in federal court are initiated by the government through a U.S. attorney, in coordination with a federal law enforcement agency and with the acceptance by the grand jury. Federal crimes are not registered in the state criminal records that comprise our basic packages 1-4. While federal crimes are more rare—they are also more significant.

Ala Carte Item 10 - OFAC "Terrorist Watch" Search ($1.00 per search)
The Office of Foreign Assets Control (“OFAC”) of the U.S. Department of the Treasury administers and enforces economic and trade sanctions based on US foreign policy and national security goals against targeted foreign countries, terrorists, international narcotics traffickers, and those engaged in activities related to the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

Ala Carte Item 11 - Education Verification ($8.00 per search)
If the position requires that applicants have a certain level of education, you can search for the highest level required. This search provides verification of any completed degree, directly from the educational institution.

Ala Carte Item 12 - Former/Present Employment Verification ($8.00 per search)
This search will verify with the organization(s) you specify whether the applicant is or was employed by them, the dates, and the applicant’s title.

These package orders will be billed to your Group account.

1 Certain states may require state-specific forms for motor vehicle reports. If one of these states is selected during the order process you will be notified by LexisNexis and instructed in how to provide the forms needed to complete the order.

What is a "National Criminal File Plus" database search?

This is the most comprehensive and current search available in the United States. Package includes Social Security Number Verification, which provides the name, date issued, and state, as well as best available address history.

Why would I want to conduct a Background Check on an individual if my state does not report to our state's criminal records?

A National Criminal File Plusrecord search gives you national coverage. It is best to obtain a national search on a background check, as an individual with a criminal record could easily move from the state or county in which the offense was committed. This ensures that you have conducted a wide range search rather than restrict yourself to one area.

How do I know if my State reports to the National Criminal File record search database?

It's not just a simple question of which state does and which state doesn't. It is up to each county to determine its reporting structure. Some states which report to the database may not have 100% of their counties participating. Our State Coverage Details page can give you information on the 3,300 US counties to determine their criminal reporting procedures.

What search can be conducted if my state does not keep electronic records?

You can order a search (Packages #2 and #4) that includes an onsite county report. LexisNexis will send a representative to pull the records from the county manually. Additional counties can be ordered for $14.00, (except in the state of New York, which charges an additional $55.00 access fee.)

How often are criminal records updated?

Courts collect and disseminate records differently. Some results are updated daily; others are updated monthly, quarterly, semi-annually or annually. In the event that a state registry is available, law enforcement agencies report to local county courts, other government agencies and when applicable, to state repositories. However, no guarantee can be made that all felony and misdemeanor convictions are reported from each agency. Information can and does vary from state to state depending on the agency information contained therein. There may be a delay from the arrest date to the date it is reported to state registries as well as a delay from court conviction date to the reporting date. Records typically do not contain summonses, citations, pending charges, active charges, open warrants or disputes between private parties.

What information does a Social Security search provide?

This search can determine the following crucial information: (a) whether the Social Security Number (SSN) is validly issued (b) to whom SSN belongs (c) the year and state in which the SSN was issued (d) the current and other known or previous addresses to that SSN.

The SSN Verification process can reveal if the number belongs to another individual, has more than one name associated with it, produces other aliases, including maiden and divorced names, is associated with fraud, is not a validly issued SSN, belongs to a deceased person, produces additional addresses not stated by the application/request form, or is registered to an individual that has other SSN's.

Anyone can give a false identification by using another person's Social Security number. This ensures that the individual is who they say they are. The Social Security search is included in packages #1 - #4.

What information does a Motor Vehicle Report include?

LexisNexis will provide a Motor Vehicle Report from the state where the applicant is licensed. Depending on the state, the report may provide information such as the type of license held, any license restrictions, license expiration date as well as dates of convictions, violations and accidents, sections violated, docket numbers, court locations and accident report numbers.

When is it appropriate to order a previous employment check?

Employment checks are a proven way to ensure applicants/volunteers are representing themselves honestly.

Should I always question what applicant's put on their resumes or application forms?

Yes.  Unfortunately, on average, over 30% of applicants misrepresent their work history.

Is your credit report Fair Credit Reporting Act ("FCRA") compliant?

Yes.  We work with your church to ensure you have properly documented the request for this information following FCRA requirements.  The information is current and from original sources.
