In the business world, we’re told if we do what we love the money will follow.

What about in ministry? Could it be true to say that if we do what we love the people will follow?

We talk about passion, finding our fit, using our gifts. Do we also consider what we love to do? Do we take into account what we enjoy when deciding where and how to serve? Have we asked the same question to our team members?

I hope we haven’t succumbed to the belief that ministry should be drudgery…possibly unrewarding…and most likely, not fun much of the time.

Hey—don’t throw stones at me. I realize ministry isn’t always easy; and certainly it’s not always fun. I wonder though, if we would have more success, greater satisfaction, and see more people drawn to our ministries if we had a little more fun. If we did more of what we love.

What do you love most about ministry? Does the prospect of doing more of that excite or energize you?  Share your thoughts on the blog…

Sometimes I wonder if my passion for the ministry scares people away. I love what I do for my church. I get excited so much that I feel I get ahead of the rest, even my pastor. My passion drives me to want it to be done “just right” and done well.

I was recently thanked by our leadership for my enthusiasm, and by a parent last Sunday for always greeting her kids so excitedly each week. She didn’t think she would be able to do that all the time. I was able to tell her, it doesn’t matter how hard the morning has been, once the kids start arriving my spirit just comes alive! I am so thankful God allows me to serve where I get so much joy!

I know that when I love what I’m doing (VBS – I’m a certified VBS Junkie)- I’m having fun and if I’m having fun then the people around me are much more likely to have fun and if they have fun then they are more likely to return. I also know that when you can’t do what you love – the things you are “required” to do become even harder to accomplish.

It is sometimes necessary to simply be responsible and do what needs to be done, when it needs to be done. That is servanthood. But serving in the area of your passion is thriving and life giving!
