Fall6

I shared this story last year, but it still rings true today! I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving. Be sure to let your family know how much you appreciate them…

My mom came for Thanksgiving last year,  and we were chatting about my aunt who had a fall last November. She’s fine, but unfortunately she broke a finger and fractured her foot. Now, this may not seem newsworthy, but this is the same aunt who always makes the Thanksgiving turkey for my family back home. At 88, she still cooks two 20-pound birds with stuffing! And she has done this for as long as I can remember.

It made sense to me that this year, with her injuries, someone else would take up the tradition and prepare the birds. I mean, I wouldn’t want to prepare, cook, and then transport that much food, even if I was healthy! My mom just laughed and said, “Oh no, she will be making the turkey. She likes the compliments.”

As I thought about this later, it made me realize how hungry people are; and I don’t mean for turkey. I mean for sincere appreciation and recognition. If my aunt is any indication, people will endure much pain and inconvenience in order to receive it!

I think this is a great reminder for us. The people in our lives deserve and desire our lavish praise and appreciation, on Thanksgiving and every day. Make it a point this week to tell others how much you appreciate them and their service. Whether that service comes in the form of volunteering in church, helping around the house, or bringing two 20-pound turkeys for Thanksgiving.

Have a terrific Turkey Day!
