At a recent staff meeting, we celebrated the success of the Simply Youth Ministry Conference. As the team stood near the front of the room, one of them stated, “It’s not just this team that made this happen. People from all over Group were involved!” Then he had everyone who had helped in any way with the conference to stand and be recognized. It was great to see people from every department stand up.

It was a living example of three values we have recently adopted:

We’re all in this together.
Tear down the walls.
Let’s just try it.

Each of these statements is so powerful in its own way! And as I’ve seen at Group, they have helped us see that our roles and responsibilities are interconnected. Only as we all work together can we carry out the mission God has given us to do.

On other words: None of us is an island. And no team is an island either.
The same could be said for your church, your team.

You are all in it together.
You can tear down the walls.
You can just try it.

Embracing these values takes maturity, humility, and effort. But I believe the rewards are well worth it. This week we’ll consider each of these statements and what they mean for our teams and churches. For now, take a minute and consider what each of these could mean in your ministry environment and church culture.

How might these statements influence your approach to ministry? Share your thoughts on our blog…

One Response to “I Am Not an Island”

If I truly believe we are “all in this together” I wouldn’t feel bad or guilty asking others to pitch in. Often I feel I am shirking my own duties if I can’t manage by myself. This is something I can definitely get better at!
