Tom (Director of Equipping Ministry Newbie)

“I’m charting a new course in an old system.”

Words like “launch,” “transform,” and “change” really excite Tom. And since his church has an entrenched, old-fashioned culture, he needs to launch some serious transformation ASAP. Maybe he sounds a little idealistic, but he wants all believers to see themselves as ministers. And he needs his leaders ready to equip them.

Sally (Children’s Ministry Leader)

“I keep all the plates spinning.”

It’s amazing what they expect a children’s pastor to do at Sally’s church! Nowadays she has to run a background check on every volunteer—on top of finding and training them. She’s only 35 years old, but sometimes she feels like she’s counting dog years. One thing’s for sure: she’ll be in the doghouse if she doesn’t balance being a wife, a mom, and a more-than-full-time church leader. She needs help, she needs it now, and she needs it cheap.

Mary (Volunteer Coordinator)

“I meet the needs of others.”

It’s funny that they call hers a “part-time” role. If her church is doing something, Mary’s a part of it. Only 20% of the people in her church can be counted on to help, and that’s never enough. Plus she needs an awfully big toolbox to handle all the tracking, administration, recruitment, and marketing she’s got to handle. Being 55 may not slow her down, but being shorthanded sure does.

Brandon (Youth Guy)

“I’m making a difference.”

Change is a constant in Brandon’s youth group. He’s got a completely different group of kids than when he started five years ago. And at 28, he has a hard time earning the respect of the rest of the church staff. They just don’t share his passion for struggling, unruly teens. So when it comes to screening and training volunteers, he needs all the help CVC can give him.

Elizabeth (Equipping Ministry Guru)

“I wonder if the theory really works.”

She’s an expert. She reads every book and attends every conference. She’s even done graduate work and teaches others about equipping leadership. As Elizabeth fuels her pursuit, she needs the support of others. She needs encouragement (that she’s making a real difference) and reinforcement (that her best practices are truly the best).

Suzie (Secretary)

“I keep the place running.”

The senior pastor may be in charge, but it’s Suzie who makes things tick. To keep her church running like a well-oiled machine, she runs the office with precision and passion. But, of course, it’s never easy. Juggling policies, procedures, and processes keeps this 62-year-old constantly busy. That’s why she depends on CVC to do a lot of the work for her.

Rob (Solo Senior Pastor)

“I grow the church and develop leaders.”

Rob’s a doer. He gets things done. Which is a good thing…except when it’s not. He’s starting to understand the power of “equipping”—enlisting the help of others and letting them run with it. And he’s trying to train his leaders to do that, too. He’s discovering that his whole team needs to sync in order to swim.

Deon (Volunteer-Turned-Pro)

“I’m developing my leadership skills.”

After only six months on the job, Deon wonders if he’s the right guy. He didn’t go to seminary. He has no church or leadership experience. But he loves teaching, loves coaching, and loves kids. As the director of student ministry, he needs to build a strong team. He doesn’t know where to begin, but he knows CVC can help.
